Stupid Politicians

Are you as sick and tired of stupid politicians and I am? I have had it with the idiots who are attempting to micromanage us into a drunken stupor. Let’s face it, there is no way we could have ended up with the amount of national debt we have hanging over our heads today accidentally.

At least the war on the Middle Class is going ...

At least the war on theMiddle Class is going well

I attended the  public school system in the 70’s, they were talking about a funding crisis for Social Security back then. The economists knew it was coming. So, what do the politicians do? They raised taxes on cigarettes, because we are killing ourselves with them, damaging our health, and thus causing us to die prematurely. You would think if more of us died prematurely, it would be beneficial for the society as a whole, because there would be fewer people alive to collect Social Security.

Now, I know that might sound terrible but I’ve always said I would die while I was still young enough to be a good-looking corpse. My daddy used to say that a lot. I believe there are worse things than death — that is not one of my major concerns.

Another negative side effect of the huge increases in taxes that have been added to the cost of smoking cigarettes is the huge number of people who have quit smoking because they simply can’t afford it any more, which by-the-way is what the politicians were hoping to do. Fewer people are now smoking, so the government is getting less tax revenue, putting them even further away from their goal of providing Social Security for those who have paid into it their entire lives.

Now they come along and shove mandatory healthcare down our throats. I don’t want anything to do with this overpriced crooked medical system they are offering. Our constitution guarantees us the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, no where in our constitution am I guaranteed a right to overpriced medical care. They can call it “healthcare” if they want but even private insurance companies refuse to cover treatments that are known for their health benefits – our medical system only covers sick care and most of the time they don’t even do that well.

There is a reason they call it “Practicing Medicine,” as most of these clowns don’t have a clue what they are doing.

It’s time we audit the government — every branch — every corner — and cut the fat, cut programs and assistance to the bone. We must do it and we must do it now, we have already passed the tipping point.

Fading American Dream

Image via Wikipedia

Don’t you just love it when Liberals try to create the change they want to see, anonymously, instead of being upfront about who they are and what they hope to achieve? Why the cloak and dagger routine?

I received a piece of spam email, which normally I would ignore and simply delete but the sender was from, “Center for a New American Dream.” Sounds like something Obama would support doesn’t it? Maybe it’s a play on Martin Luther King, Jr’s, “I have a dream,” speech? The email began,

If you are like us, you may find yourself strung out at times. Long work hours, money pressures, not enough time for loved ones, lost connection to the outdoors – is this the American Dream? Maybe it’s time for a “new dream,” one with a better work/life balance and more value on nature and sustainable living.

I think most of us have already made drastic changes in our lifestyle, we are now living the “new lifestyle” the Democrats and Republicans want us to get used to, while they continue to spend our tax dollars like a drunken sailor on leave.

Instead of using one of the prepared links in the email, I  typed the url into my browser, then I looked up newdream.org in Whois. When that search failed to bring up a named individual, you know the one paying for the website, I searched Google for the telephone number listed, which brought me to Nicole Berckes. Using another browser window, I searched on Nicole’s name and guess what I discovered? Nicole M. Berckes actually works for Senator Bill Nelson a Florida Democrat.

Of course, the address listed on the website, isn’t in Florida. The address “455 Second Street SE, Suite 101, Charlottesville, VA 22902,” actually belongs to “BitsBuilder is a tiny software consultancy headquartered in Charlottesville, VA.,” according to their website.

What is Senator Nelson trying to hide? How did they get my email address? Why the cloak and dagger routine?

Political Posturing

I wrote an opinion  piece last night, in response to the Amazon Sales Tax debacle that hit the news late yesterday in California. As I sat here it occurred to me that grandma never got riled up much, unless it was after her bedtime beer, when she would get a little silly.

Grandma knew that things have a way of working themselves out. She would say things like, “It will all come out in the wash.” and one of my personal favorites, “Necessity is the mother of invention.”

Look around you at friends and neighbors. The folks who  are doing well right now, have found a need and they are filling it. People are switching careers, starting new businesses and it is because of,  the true pioneering spirit that built this nation.

More people are growing their own fruits and vegetables than ever before. Cooks are sharing recipes on their blogs and Facebook, along with money-saving  tips and financial strategies that work in these uncertain times.

As politicians continue to line their own pockets,  squeezing every dime possible from  the collective taxpayer  wallet, taxpayers invent new ways to cope and fight back. The skills possessed by our ancestors has not been lost. There are still plenty of us old-timers around who know how to cook (from scratch) and how to can food, sew and mend clothing, raise livestock, hunt, farm and many other things.  Many families will even prosper, in spite of facing fear and trepidation due to our failing economy.

I can still hear my dad taunting me with, “No guts, no glory!”

I mentioned in my previous piece that Amazon closed our account and California thinks that driving business out of the state will boost their sales tax revenues. Well, I want California to tighten its belt.  I want illegal immigrants sent home, where they belong instead of draining my social security benefits. (You know the ones I’ve paid my entire life but will never collect.)

My husband had a terrific idea, which I fully support. We’ve moved our amazon account to our kids, who live in Michigan — a state that was hit early and hard when the depression steam rolled this county. We frequently bought items for the grandchildren on Amazon with our affiliate revenue, the only difference is now their parents will receive the money directly and they can pay the taxes on it.

It’s a win, win situation and everyone’s happy — well almost everyone. I can’t image that the Governor of California or the California Franchise Tax Board will be too thrilled with my solution but I really don’t care what they like.

If you ask me… No one did but, in my opinion we should all stay home more, buy more things online. It will help cut our dependence on fossil fuels, it will help people lead happier more productive lives. Let’s face it, traffic is a nightmare these days. Instead of building more freeways and buying more cars, let’s stay home a little more. Many people already work a 4-day week. I think that is terrific. It saves you money, it’s good for the environment and the employer benefits by having a happier employee.

Wouldn’t it be terrific if everyone could condense their work-week or even work from home one or two days a week? There are many things we can to cut back.

Oh, and Amazon, pst. I have a secret, you aren’t the only online game in town. I happen to know of other online stores with terrific deals and free shipping. So, you’ll be seeing a little less of me right away and my business could disappear completely and we send a great deal of business your way.

Until next time…

Happy Fourth of July!
