Confederate Battle

There comes a point where you have to say wait a big, fat minute.  Have we all forgotten history? I love this Facebook post by  Leonard J. Siebert.

“Interesting take on the Confederate flag but first we need to address your headline claim of ignorance and racism.

In 1860, northern and western electoral votes ...

In 1860, northern and western electoral votes (shown in red) put Lincoln into the White House.

The United States began its first Civil War on April 12th 1861, by all historic and documented accounts; Abraham Lincoln issued the ‘presidential order’, the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. So your premise that the Civil War was started over slavery, is not supported by the chronological timeline.

When we address cause and effect attempting to pigeon hole a cause can cause erroneous conclusions. Why in your article you claim ‘slavery’ as the cause of the Civil War, the actual historic cause is cited as the secession by seven states in the south, whose economies were all based on cotton. While I cannot deny that there were slaves in those states and slavery in any form is wrong; we need to know what caused the secession of these states as that has been cited as the cause of the Civil war.

Abraham Lincoln with Allan Pinkerton and Major...

Abraham Lincoln with Allan Pinkerton and Major General John Alexander McClernand at the Battle of Antietam.

Abraham Lincoln won the 1860 presidential election without being on the ballot in ten of the southern states. His victory triggered declarations of secession by those states.

In general Economic and social differences between the North and the South is cited as the top factor contributing to the actual war with State’s rights versus Federal rights (an interesting parallel, playing out currently) and finally the fight between abolitionists and slave owners, is cited as the third contributing cause with varied degrees and schools of thought as to whom and what was involved.

While Massachusetts was one of the first states to rule slavery unconstitutional, a decision of the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts based on that states Constitution of 1780. It was in 1780 that Pennsylvania passed the ‘Act for the Gradual Abolition of Slavery’ that freed the future children of slaves. Those born prior to the Act remain enslaved for life. The Act becomes a model for other Northern states. Last of that states slaves were freed 1847.

The cotton gin was invented by Eli Whitney on March 14, 1794 and could be cited as a point of conversion of America’s society from agrarian culture into an industrial one although most historians cite 1760 as the transition year, due to labor going from hand production methods to machines, new chemical manufacturing and iron production processes, improved efficiency of water power, the increasing use of steam power, and the development of machine tools.

I however bring up the cotton gin as the South had long relied on hand labor and agriculture, economically they could not compete with the North and as machines became more efficient and autonomous, slavery was already headed the way of the dinosaur in most industrialized countries; save for the Middle East, that still boast a rather booming and active slave trade.

The key points to take from this is; Slavery was not the chief cause of the Civil War but it was a cause and even us ignorant Southern Okies, have a better grasp of history than you do.

Let me take this a step further with your comment:

“Defenders of the flag need to realize that after the Civil War, nobody was flying this thing, including Robert E. Lee. It is funny how “heritage” didn’t suddenly become important until the descendants of the people who used to be slaves suddenly started to get the same rights they had.”

Did you bother to read this for how contradictory this statement is to the heart of your angst against the Confederate flag? If nobody was flying it; not even Robert E. Lee, than your representation of it being a symbol, like that of the Nazi flag, being one of hate; suddenly becomes negated.

However you were accusing Southerners of ignorance and this is about me highlighting you own or are you just lying. The South had many flags during the Civil War and this caused a great deal of confusion during combat as many resembled ‘Old Glory’. That was what flags and banners are for, you know, identification and communication of combat units, at a distance, during battle, before ‘radio’ existed. Yet addressing your erroneous point more directly:

“On November 28, 1861, Confederate soldiers in General Robert E. Lee’s newly reorganized Army of Northern Virginia received the new battle flags in ceremonies at Centreville and Manassas, Virginia, and carried them throughout the Civil War. Beauregard gave a speech encouraging the soldiers to treat this new flag with honor and that it must never be surrendered.

Many soldiers wrote home about the ceremony and the impression the flag had upon them, the “fighting colors” boosting morale after the confusion at the Battle of First Manassas. From that point on, the battle flag only grew in its identification with the Confederacy and the South in general. Later, a 13th star was added for Kentucky.”

So, what does the above factual history about the Confederate Battle Square or ‘Stars and Bars’, mean in context to your article. It means that you and your editors are either very ignorant of the Civil War, very stupid or lying and using a hate filled rant full of erroneous propaganda to incite more hate against a symbol that will forever be etched in American history; like it or not.

So where was all your righteous indignation over the Confederate flag for the last 154 other years of history or did you only just learn to write? Perhaps you need to devote more time to reading before you start spouting off about history or any other subject.

Basically I have proven the subject matter you used to make your points erroneous; as such the entire headline you maintain is equally erroneous. I am not denying that racism exists, it does but the Confederate Battle Square is not the representation of it, as you are trying so desperately to claim. It is rather a reminder of a tragic point in our history, one that should not be forgotten, ever.

After all, those who do not remember the sins of the past; are doomed to repeat them.  Based on the your article; I’d say your more than half-way there.”

Thank you Mr. Siebert for setting people straight.  I couldn’t have said it better myself.

This post was written in response to this article: “Dirt Ignorant, Flag Waving Bigots Out in Force Across the South“.

Environment, Parties & People

I used to be a very conservative Republican, until I woke up and realized all the games being played by the politicians, the corporations and those with power and money.  I still can’t believe the way the Republicans behaved during the last election. [Read: Republican National Convention Rules Changes and Dirty Tricks]

The general gist of the idea as it was portrayed by the people who were behind the proposed rules changes was to prevent a hostile takeover of the Republican Party and the National Convention by members of the Ron Paul contingent, the Ron Paul Revolution and the Campaign for Liberty. And without Mr. Blackwell present who is by no means a Ron Paul supporter and the members of the Virginia delegation present, the resistance to the proposed rules changes just faded away.

So what are the rules that were at issue and how were they changed? The two rules that were at stake were Rule #12 and Rule #15. Generally the changes in the rules shift power from the State and County Republican Parties to the National Party and the RNC, and to the Party’s Presidential nominee. That would be Mitt Romney. The changes in the rules are already being referred to as “The Romney Rules.” They effectively disenfranchise conservative activists of all kinds all across America. They disenfranchise TEA Party Activists, and not just Ron Paul supporters! Both the TEA Party Movement and the Ron Paul supporters sprung up as a result of the intransigence of the old school, old paradigm politicians, but instead of listening to the growing cries from the grassroots, the Establishment essentially muted the volume and turned them flat down!

Needless to say, I’m never voting for them again!  It’s just not going to happen. Period.

But I’m curious.  That wasn’t fair, honest and upright.  Where is the law?  You read about all these crimes being committed by government officials but they are not being prosecuted.  Why not?  Are the police so busy busting drug “offenders” that they can’t find the time to bust the ones who are really hurting people?

So, I switched to the Libertarian Party.  I agree with them on most stances, except I am not for gay rights.  The gay rights movement has harmed more people than it’s helped.  As more and more of our children get caught up in the lies, being taught to them beginning as early as Kindergarten about their bodies.  It’s just not normal to educate children on this topic so young and by presenting it as natural or normal we may as well be encouraging it.  Tipping the scales.

Any parent knows that children are easily manipulated.

I’m so fed up because I don’t fit in anywhere.  I hate what Obama has done to our country.  I hate that he’s not being held accountable and his supporters are not being held accountable.  The only thing that gives me hope is the American People. I know have seen them rise to the occasion and turn things around.  And with God all things are possible.  I have not lost faith in this country or it’s people.

The Man Who Lives Without Money

by  Amanda Froelich

Think you couldn’t live without money? Irishman Mark Boyle challenged this notion and here’s how he finds life with no financial income, bank balance, and no spending.

“If someone told me seven years ago, in my final year of a business and economics degree, that I’d now be living without money, I’d have probably choked on my microwaved ready meal.” According to Boyle, the plan back then was to ‘get a good job’, make as much money as possible, and buy the stuff that would show society he was successful.

I think the Democrats have great ideas when it comes to the environment and the foods we eat.  They’ve introduced bills to label GMO’s.  Wonder why no one is talking about banning GMO’s?   This big huge fight over a label?  Get real.  They simply don’t care.  They aren’t serious about protecting us, the people.  The Green Party is just the opposite, they care only about the environment.

We have to live here.  People matter!

We need to do what’s best for wildlife, people and the environment.  Obviously, poisoning our land, the place we live, is not a good idea.  The ocean has been irradiated, ocean life are dead or dying.  What is being done?  Our government isn’t even talking about it.  Nothing.

We must be the change we want to see in the world.  It’s a process but we have to start somewhere.  Look around you.  What can you do?

Signs That We Haven’t Lost America Yet

PJ Media reports…

5 Signs That We Haven’t Lost America Yet

Benghazi, Boston bombings, the Gosnell massacre, the Cleveland kidnappings, the IRS targeting conservatives, DOJ snooping on the AP, war games with Iran and North Korea, civil war in Syria…

Last week my ability to mentally process world events felt like a cell phone when the data is throttled – it was almost too much to wrap my mind around. Some days I fantasize about life as a low-information voter, not caring about anything more important than what some Kardashian is up to. Barring sudden brain malfunction, I’m not likely to experience that kind of apathy any time soon, and the fact that you’re reading PJ Media tells me that you’re likely in the same boat.

Instead of spending the weekend wallowing in all the terrible things happening in the country and around the world, I decided to instead consider many of the positive signs around us that all is not yet lost.  [Continue Reading…]

These people just don’t get it.  They thought out names like Tea Party, Conservative, Christian, 9/12… All they are doing is trying to put us back in our little boxes.  Give a name, stereotype us and continue on  with  business as usual.    Heck I’ll even go out on a limb and say the Republican party is already gone.  They just don’t realize it yet.

I’ll bet if you checked the demographics of those holding the reins at the GOP, they  are all over 70 and their supporters are in their 50’s & 60’s.  Guess what is going to happen to the Republican party if this continues?    It will go the way of the Whig’s.  They would have us believe that Christian’s are all against smoking weed for medicine, and it just isn’t so.

I know we haven’t lost America yet, because of the pioneering spirit that still dwells inside us.  People are preparing as best we can for the inevitable ruination and collapse.  Our economy is going to crash, the powers that be have done everything they can to make it so.  But it’s how well we prepare and stick together that will make the difference in the end.

It’s not about the Tea Party, it’s about freedom.  Either we are a free people or we are slaves. If we are free, then we deserve the right, as free thinking adults, to do whatever we want so long as we aren’t infringing on the rights of others.  Government was necessary to regulate trade between the states.  But government has never been our master and it’s time we put it in it’s place.  Get with the program old guys.  This isn’t the Tea Party you were looking for — it’s the Libertarian Party — the one that trusts people to decide right from wrong.

I just have to mention…

“We are Raising Constitutionally Literate Kids”

I don’t know where you went to school but we learned the constitution in school, the only thing we really didn’t cover was the Federalist Papers.  But I consider school a jumping off point.  Most people look at school as the end of 13 years of education, I look at as the  beginning  of a long road.  We are constantly learning and educating ourselves.

So, enjoy your kids while they’re young.  Work a little, play a lot. They are only little once, and  they have their whole life to learn.
